June 1 – 2 – The United States will host the seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) in San Francisco, California, on June 1 & 2, 2016. The Clean Energy Ministerial is the follow-up meeting to the COP21 U.N. Convention of Parties climate change talks last December in Paris. June 1 – 3 – At Infocast’s 3rd California Water Summit, network and join the discussion with key regulators, municipalities, utilities, developers, investors, financiers, water technology companies, and other stakeholders in California water. May 18 – Clean Technology Council presents Wyoming Wind & Utah Energy Storage to Power Los Angeles.  Lincoln Bleveans of Burbank Water and Power will discuss a proposed 1200 MW (Megawatt) underground compressed air energy storage (CAES) facility in Utah. The project combines 3000 MW of proposed wind energy in Wyoming, a proposed 500 mile high-voltage transmission line from Wyoming to Utah, 300 MW of existing wind in Utah, and an existing 500 mile high-voltage transmission line from Utah to Southern California. The CAES facility would be installed in 300 MW phases, and together with renewables, could help replace an existing 1900 MW coal-fired generating station in Utah. May 20 – 22 – San Diego Smart City Hackathon organized by The Silent Intelligence in partnership with UCSD Center for Wireless Communications, the City of San Diego, Cleantech San Diego, and others will crowdsource the most innovative technology solutions from our tech community and beyond (academia, corporations, independent software developers) to help the City deliver on its Climate Action Plan.   Participants will have a chance to come up with original creative prototype solutions to difficult city problems, which require wireless sensors and a lot of data – such as energy and water monitoring, waste management, transportation, and other city services. 12 April – Cleantech OC hosts Let There Be Light.  Integrated LED lighting technologies continue on their paths toward greater efficiencies and further connectedness. 14 April – YPE LA and CHBC:  Rollout of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles and Renewable Hydrogen.  California is at the forefront of Stationary Fuel Cells & Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) deployment in the US and worldwide. Funding from the California Energy Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program (ARFVTP) is currently being used to build a statewide hydrogen refueling infrastructure of 100 stations to meet the state’s goals for reducing GHG emissions and petroleum dependence. March 9 – 11 – 9th Annual Renewable Energy & Water Summit hosted by the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation (IVEDC). March 9 – 13 – Natural Products Expo West/Engredea is projected to be the largest in its 36-year history. Los Angeles Cleantech Calendar 2016 – January and February

 Welcome to the January-February, 2016 Cleantech Calendar of events of interest to entrepreneurs, start-up executives, investors, service professionals and community leaders around Southern California and beyond. These are the events, conferences and programs that focus on clean energy, sustainable development, reducing environmental impacts and highlighting progress. Check back periodically for updates.  A bit quiet this time of year but we’re fortunate to have one of the great green conferences – VerdeXchange – at the end of January.  Also in January is the annual Cleantech Forum in San Francisco as well as Clean Technology Council’s monthly meeting.  And then in February, we have GreenBiz 16 and Ballast Water Management Summit.

Jan 13 – The Clean Technology Council welcomes Dr. Rao Surampudi, Assistant Division Manager Autonomous Systems, Jet Propulsion Laboratory for a look at NASA Spacecraft Technology and Green Energy.    Some deep space missions have used radioisotope systems for power generation and fuel cells in human missions for primary electrical power. Welcome to the November-December, 2015 Cleantech Calendar of events of interest to entrepreneurs, start-up executives, investors, service professionals and community leaders around Southern California and beyond. August 24 – 26 – The Fleet Technology Expo is for all fleet types that are looking for ways to improve operational efficiency.  Educational sessions include strategies on reducing fuel use and maintenance costs to optimizing fleet software and data to alternative-fuel adoption. August 26 – The 6th Annual Women in Green Forum is the premier network and professional conference series for women in environmental careers, highlighting the leaders of the environmental movement and sustainability strategies of Mexico and the US.  The Forum brings together an international audience of women focused on environmental issues, including academic researchers, business experts, energy analysts, and technology developers. Sept 22 – 23 – Cleantech Group will be hosting The Water Innovation Summit for the 4th time, this year focuse on the California drought and opportunities for the water innovation community.  During our day-and-a-half Summit, we will look at sectors such as agriculture, utilities, and energy from a customer-centric view through workshop-style discussions, and explore cross-cutting themes like financing mechanisms for water innovation and improving water management and measurement tools across sectors.  Claremont Hotel Club & Spa, Berkeley

Sept 23 – 24 – EUCI presents Demand Response – The Next Generation conference that will help utilities and regulators understand the emerging ‘next generation’ of demand response and its role in the smart grid revolution and transforming utility business model. Sept 25 – 27 – More than 20,000 attendees expected for the 5th Los Angeles Green Festival.  With one of the strongest waste recycling programs and a strong commitment to developing alternative transportation and energy initiatives, we look forward to growing with this green city. Through EnvironmentLA, the city offers a Green Business Certification in addition to establishing programs and projects to make Los Angeles a more environmentally-friendly city. Sept 29 – 30 – CaFFEET (The California France Forum on Energy Efficiency Technologies) is an annual event held over 2 days organized by EDF, The Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in the United States, PRIME and the French Tech Hub. It’s aim is to promote the exchange of technical and scientific knowledge in the field of energy efficiency between France and California, two major low-carbon economies. Each year, CaFFEET gathers more then 200 experts from academic world, research centers, organizations, institutions, utilities and startups.  The Village, San Francisco

Sept 30 – Oct 1 – 2015 Southern California Energy + Water Summit forges new connections with over 600 public and private sector leaders from throughout Southern California united together to foster clean energy opportunities, identify long-range water solutions and build a sustainable region.  EWS2015 will bring together a blend of interactive educational sessions, keynote presentations and panel discussions from a wide array of experts.  Palm Springs Convention Center

July 29 – 30 – Following the success of the First Annual West and East Coast Microgrid Conferences, the 2015 West Coast Microgrid Conference continues to provide a platform for public and private sector professionals to demonstrate and discuss their successful microgrid projects and lessons learned.  Presentations will cover current deployments on alternative islanding philosophies, enabling technologies, successful design and architecture, microgrid economics and the regulatory landscape. July 29 – 30 – California Hydrogen Business Council (CHBC) Summer Summit will focus on two key issues that are important to California’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while increasing the role of renewables in our energy portfolio.  Hydrogen and fuel cell technology will be part of the portfolio producing energy that is clean, quiet and compatible with existing transportation and stationary power generation needs.  SoCal Gas Energy Resource Center, Downey, CA.

July 29 – 30 – The EV Roadmap 8 Conference has established itself as one of the leading electric vehicle conferences in the United States. Founded by Portland General Electric and Portland State University, and now produced by Drive Oregon, the conference provides a “graduate course” in electric vehicle deployment.  We believe that widespread electric vehicle adoption requires a supportive “ecosystem” of stakeholders, from utilities and local governments to vehicle OEMs, charging providers, interest groups and drivers. The EV Roadmap Conference brings all of these stakeholders together in a highly interactive format to explore emerging trends, share best practices, and map the road ahead.  World Trade Center, Portland, OR.

July 30 – PortTech hosts a Phase 1 SBIR/STTR Workshop featuring  Martin Klechner III, PhD.  Attend this workshop to learn how to write successful proposals to any of the 11 government agencies that run Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.  San Pedro, 1:00 – 5:00 PM

August 5 – 6 –  Battery Power 2015 is an international conference highlighting the latest developments impacting mobile and portable battery systems for consumer and commercial products, including the Internet of Everything, power tools, smart phones, tablets, laptops and medical devices. August 8 – 13 – The 12th Annual American Renewable Energy Day (AREDAY): a deep retreat with global leaders in renewable energy and climate change mitigation.  This is America’s premiere global think-tank and networking event featuring Clean Energy World leaders in finance, investment, government,  the public and private sectors. August 12 – The Clean Technology Council monthly meeting features Dr. Jim Stewart’s Healing the Earth with Seaweed Forests, using biomass from the ocean to produce renewable energy.  Dr. Stewart and PODenergy cultivate and harvest ocean kelp forests and produce biomethane to be used in place of fossil fuels.  The process sequesters CO2, recycles nutrients and improves biodiversity in near shore environments.  Total Wine & More, Thousand Oaks, 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Jun 29 – July 1 – Infocast presents the 2nd California Water Summit.  The American Society of Civil Engineers estimates that $69 billion worth of drinking water and waste water infrastructure projects in California will be needed to address future municipal and industrial water shortcomings.
